Answer any five questions in which Q.no. 1 is compulsory.

1. Explain any four of the following : 

       (a) Furan is less reactive than pyrrole.
       (b) Anthracene undergoes Duel's Alder's reaction.
       (c) Pyridine is less basic than piperidine.
       (d) Diborane reacts with alkanes to give cis product .
        (e) All colour substance are not dyes.

2. Write an account of any three of the following name reaction :
          (a) Beckmann rearrangement
          (b) Pinacol-Pinacolone rearrangement

          (c) Mannich reaction
          (d) Claisen rearrangement

3. Write down the synthetic application of any three of the following name reaction:
           (a) Lithium Aluminium hydride
           (b) Selenium oxide
           (c) Peracetic acid
           (d) N-Bromosuccinimide

4.     (a) Establish the structure of anthracene by degradation and synthesis
        (b)How can you convert any two of the following from anthracene ?
                (i) 9,10-Anthraquinone

               (ii) 9-Nitroanthracene
               (iii) Anthracene sulphonic acid

5.   (a) Elucidate the structure of Pyridine
     (b) Bring about any two of the following transformation from Pyridine :
             (i) 2-Aminopyridine
             (ii) 3-Bromopyridine
             (iii) 3-pyridine sulphonic acid

6.  (a) write an account of the following :
            (i) Skaraup synthesis of quinoline
            (ii) Knorr quinoline synthesis
     (b) Synthesis any two of the following from quinoline:
            (i) Quinoline methyl quaternary iodide
            (ii) 1,2,3,4 Tetrahydroquinoline
            (iii) 5- Nitroquinoline

 

8   . (a) Explain Chromophores, chromogen and auxo-chrome
       (b) Classify dye.
       (c) Discuss the structure of indigo

9. Write notes on any four of the following :
      (a) Vulcanization of rubber
     (b) Biodegradable Polymers
     (c) Common fatty acids
     (d) Knocking and anti-knocking substance
