UG Admission 2023: Admission will be done simultaneously in all the undergraduate courses of the University of Bihar, for which the Raj Bhavan has issued a notice. BA, BSc, BCom course will now be of 4 years. The draft and syllabus for the graduation session 2023-27 has been prepared. This year, including Patna University, admission will be taken on the basis of 12th marks in all the universities of Bihar like Mithila University, Bihar University, Patliputra University, etc.

Bihar : UG (BA, BSC, B.COM) Admission 2023

The new syllabus will be implemented in all universities from this year itself. Let us tell you that from session 2023-27, the syllabus and admission fees of all the universities of Bihar will remain the same. Now you can apply for admission in any university of Bihar in BA, BSc, BCom on the basis of your 12th marks. Earlier, entrance test was taken for admission in graduation in Patna University, but this time this Patna University will also give admission to students on the basis of 12th marks only. However, from the next session, if the Vice-Chancellor of the University wants, he can take the entrance test.
  • According to the new syllabus, the graduation course will now be of 4 years and there will be a total of 8 semesters. 
  • Each academic year shall consist of two semesters: Odd semesters (I, III, V, VII) from July to December . Even semesters (II, IV, VI, VIII) from January to June
  • The candidates shall not be allowed to register for any other degree programme in the same University or any other University during the same academic session of his/her study in the Bachelor or any other equivalent 
  • Each semester will be of 20 credits, which means the course will be completed in a total of 160 credits. 
  • Students must have obtained 7.5 CGPA by the time they reach the seventh semester of the final year. 
  • 75 % attendance has been made mandatory for the students
  • A student who has less than 75% attendance in any course/paper, will be required to repeat the particular course/paper in the subsequent forthcoming examination by paying the proportionate fee of that semester as per decision of the University.

Certificate/Award/Degree

  • After the successful completion of Semester II - Undergraduate Certificate
  • After the successful completion of Semester IV - Undergraduate Diploma
  • After the successful completion of Semester VI - Bachelor of  Science/Arts/Commerce (Hons.)
  • After the successful completion of Semester VIII - Bachelor of  Science/Arts/Commerce (Hons. with Research)

Examinations

The University Examination of each course in all semesters shall have two components: 
  1. Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) of MJC, MIC, MDC, AEC & SEC containing 30 marks.
  2. End Semester Examination (ESE) of MJC, MIC, MDC AEC & SEC, V AC containing 70 marks.
  • Components of CIA (For theory course):
  1. One mid-semester written tests (lx15) =  15 Marks
  2. Seminar/Quiz/Presentation/ Assignment = 10 Marks
  3. Attendance and Conduct = 05 Marks
  4. Total = 30 Marks
  • Components of CIA (For Practical course):
  1. One mid-semester written tests (lx15) =  15 Marks
  2. Seminar/Quiz/Presentation/ Assignment = 10 Marks
  3. Attendance and Conduct = 05 Marks
  4. Total = 30 Marks

Question Paper/Exam Pattern

Question Paper Pattern will be uniform for all Universities of Bihar.
The examination of odd semester I, II, V and VII shall generally be held in November and December and that of even semesters II, V, VI and VIII in the month of April-May. 
Paper Setting and Evaluation: For ESE, the paper setting and evaluation will be done by the teachers of the concerned subject. 
The question papers for all courses of (i) AEC (ii) SEC & (iii) V AC will be of OMR based objective type. 
There shall be no supplementary examination in any of the courses/papers in any semester.

UG Admission Fees

For admission in UG (Undergraduate) BA, BSc, BCom, the admission fees have been made the same in all the universities of Bihar. Applicable from session 2023-27.
  • Admission Fee (Semester 1st) - Rs 2255
  • Semester 2nd Admission Fee (or other Semester) - Rs.2005 (per semester)
  • Examination Fee - Rs.600 per semester
  • Registration fee - Rs 600
  • Lab fee Rs. 600/- per semester for the subject having practical classes (Science, Geography, Psychology, Home Science, Music, ..)
  • The revision of the fee structure may be made every 4th year on the approval of Chancellor
  • Fee for UG Certificate / UG Diploma / UG Degrees / UG Degrees Honours with research will be rupees Rs. 600/-(Six hundred) per each.
  • Apart from this there is no charge

Grading System/Marking :

The Teacher/Examination Department shall use the following grading system:
The grading system stated below shall be used at the time of preparation of the result of the candidates who appeared at the examination.
Grading system
  • The student shall have to obtain a minimum CGP A = 4.5 for the award of Bachelor Degree.
  • If a candidate got CGPA less than 4.5 but earned required credits and pass in all papers/courses then 0.5 will be added in actual CGP A obtained but total CGPA should not exceed 4.5.
  • If a student fails in any semester a grace of maximum 05 Marks in split manner may be provided to make clear the subjects/Course in which the student is fail.

Under the new education policy, admission in graduation will be taken in all the universities of Bihar under the CBCS system only. Admission in the four-year undergraduate course session 2023-27, which has been issued by the Information Raj Bhavan, Semester 1 and Semester 2 admission dates and details are as follows.

Entrance Exam for Admission in next Academic year

From next academic year for all universities of Bihar admission to the First semester of the Bachelor Programme shall be made, on unified basis, on the basis of the marks obtain by the students at 10+2 level or Common Admission Entrance Test (CAET), as decided by the chancellor.
The Admission Entrance Test Booklet will consist of 100 multiple-choice type questions. 
  • The Part A of the Admission Entrance Test Booklet will consist of 40 multiple choice type questions from General Knowledge, General Aptitude and Numerical Aptitude.
  • The Part-B will consist of 60 multiple-choice type questions from all major subjects of Humanities and Social Science.
  • The Part- C will consist of 60 multiple-choice type questions from all major subjects of science (For Science Stream only).
  • The Part- D will consist of 60 multiple-choice type questions from all major subjects of Commerce.
  • Part -A will be common for all and students may choose any one from Part B, Part C and Part D. There will be a Common merit list and students shall have the option to choose the programme from the list offered by the University. Students shall fill in their choices. Finally, the programme will be allotted on the basis of their merit cum choice. 
  • The duration of the test shall be of two hours.

Course Details : Outline of CBCS System

It shall consists of following courses, Major Course (MJC), Minor Course (MIC), Multidisciplinary Course (MDC), Skill Enhancement Course (SEC), Value Added Course (VAC), Ability Enhancement Course (Course on Disaster Risk Management) (AEC), Internship (INT), Research Project (RP) / Dissertation .
  • Major Course (MJC): Major (MJC) courses are designed to impart students with the core concepts, principles and processes, and laboratory as well as instrumental skills in main branches. MJCs are a mandatory requirement for a student's program of study who wish to pursue an undergraduate degree. MJCs will be appropriately graded and arranged across the semesters of study, being undertaken by the student, with multiple entry and exit options as per UGC Curriculum. 
  • Minor Course (MIC) : The growth of specific subject in the past few decades have been tremendous and many new sub-disciplines have emerged. It is important that apart from the main branches of the subject, a study of these new branches is also included in the curriculum. The Minor Course (MIC) incorporates important emerging areas and a pool of credit courses from their own faculty are included out of which a student will choose to study, based on his/her interest from their own faculty. 
  • Multidisciplinary Course (MDC): Multi-Disciplinary Courses are a pool of courses offered by various disciplines of study which is meant to provide multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary education to students. Students may opt for · any three Multidisciplinary course out of a list of Multidisciplinary papers (Basket) offered by the parent department or any other departments as per his/her choice with the prior permission of the parent department. The list of Multidisciplinary papers, syllabus and prerequisite of the Multidisciplinary courses will be as decided by the Board of Studies (BOS) of the concerned subject /department / Academic Council. 
  • Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) : SEC are skill-based courses in all disciplines and are aimed at providing hands-on training, competencies, proficiency and skills to students. SEC courses may be chosen from a pool of courses designed to provide skill-based instruction. 
  • Value-Added Course (VAC) : This is a pool of courses offered by all the Departments in groups of odd and even semesters out of which a student can choose. VAC courses are the common pool of courses offered by different disciplines and aimed towards personality building, embedding ethical, cultural & constitutional values; promoting critical thinking, Indian Knowledge Systems, scientific temperament, communication skills, creative writing, presentation skills, sports & physical education and teamwork which will help in the all-round development of students. 
  • Ability Enhancement Course (AEC) : AEC courses are courses based upon the content that leads to knowledge enhancement through various areas of study. They are Language and Literature, Environmental Science and Sustainable Development which are mandatory for all disciplines.
